SAGE is empowering girls in its schools across Afghanistan to share their own stories through art, poetry, essays, and videos—giving them a platform to express their dreams, challenges, and hopes in the face of the Taliban’s educational bans.
Through training and encouragement, SAGE is helping young Afghan high school girls develop their artistic and creative skills to tell their stories. Their work speaks not only of loss—the closure of schools, universities, and futures—but also of resilience and determination. Here are a few of their reflections in their own words:
“To hold a paintbrush in my hand and express my art… helps me forget my struggles and sorrows.” — Khalida, age 19
“This is the second week that we can’t go to outside for picnic , walking, shopping specially for studying. I can’ stand like this and watch my bad luck. I am so sad now just because of my dreams. But I never give up I will continue my way for finding the new way for my life. I will try to improve my skills and make my future bright.”
For these students, SAGE’s programmes offer more than education—they provide a lifeline of purpose and a space to dream despite the barriers around them.
