Empowerment For Her launched the #RedForAfghanistanWomen campaign in March 2025 to draw international attention to the systematic oppression of Afghan women and girls under Taliban rule.
Using red lipstick as a symbol of resistance, the campaign calls for global solidarity with Afghan women silenced by gender-based restrictions on education, employment, healthcare, and freedom of movement. In a powerful moment of international support, Richard Bennett (UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan), Lars Bo Møller (Denmark’s Special Representative for Afghanistan), and Vibe Klarup (Secretary General of Amnesty International Denmark) joined the campaign in May 2025 by wearing red lipstick in a show of unity.
The campaign also gained visibility at the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, where diplomats, advocates, and human rights defenders echoed the call to recognise gender apartheid as a crime under international law.
