Zan Times Partners with The Guardian to Amplify Afghan Women’s Voices Globally

In April and May 2025, Zan Times partnered with the UK newspaper The Guardian to publish two powerful joint investigations exposing the Taliban’s abuses against Afghan women. These reports exemplify Zan Times’ mission to bring the lived experiences of Afghan women to the global stage through bold, collaborative journalism.

The first investigation reveals how the Taliban’s mahram restrictions—forcing women to have a male guardian to leave their homes—are preventing access to healthcare, fuelling a rise in preventable maternal and infant deaths. One mother shared, “I begged them, my daughter was dying.”

The second report uncovers the widespread public flogging of women forced to falsely confess to so-called “moral crimes” under Taliban rule, shedding light on the brutality faced by women accused without evidence.

By partnering with The Guardian, Zan Times ensures that the realities of Afghan women are not silenced, but seen and heard by international audiences. These investigations not only document abuses but call for global solidarity and accountability.
